I expanded on the basic flavour dice table in the book, primarily because there is so much more to ingredients than just the flavour. I also wanted to expand on the cooking mechanic itself by introducing an ambition/ease element to it.
Ingredients will vary in quality. Some dishes will require an ingredient of a certain quality, while other dishes do not require wagyu-beef-level quality ingredients to make it work. With this thought in mind, you can downgrade ingredient dice to make a dish less ambitious but easier to prepare. There is greater chance to roll doubles while making a feast when the amount of numbers on a die are fewer.
The players decide how ambitious a meal should be before they start cooking. Dice cannot be reduced while cooking.
For example: The party fought a rabid moole (cow mole) and now have a beautiful slab of smooth (d12), savory (d12), marbled meat (d20) as well as some bell peppers (d4) and spicy snail marinade (d12). These ingredients could make for a beautiful dish. You could flavour the meat in the marinade, then carefully grill it to medium-rare and pair it with some stir-fried bell peppers.
Because you use the ingredients at their full potential, the chance to roll high numbers for doubles is greater. The amount of points you could gain as a maximum from making this feast is 24. However, the chance to roll doubles is lower because the d20 has a 2/5 chance of not rolling a number occurring on a d12.
Instead, the party went with a less ambitious meal: They wanted to make kebab skewers with the meat and bell peppers and used the marinade to make a sauce intead. The meat was ground (All dice reduced to a d10) and the marinade was mixed with crème fraîche and butter to make a sauce (also reduced to a d10).
The chance to roll doubles with this dish is greater, while the maximum amount of points to gain from this feast is 20, slightly reduced from the original maximum of 24.
